Preseason

August 26th - 30th

Preseason is open to experienced youth rowers. If you have previously been on Development or have attended learn to row summer camps, then you are eligible to join us for Novice preseason. All athletes aiming for a spot on our Varsity Team or Novice Team should attend Preseason, which will be a week long training and evaluation process. This tryout week will culminate with a 5K erg test on Friday, August 30th.

Selection for Varsity & Novice teams will be dependent upon coach evaluations, erg test results, and technique, coachability and practice approach. Fall Race Team placement will be announced on Saturday, August 31st via email.

Any athlete unable to attend Preseason is required to submit a 5k erg score by midnight, August 29th for consideration. Photo of the erg screen with 5k time is mandatory. NO EXCEPTIONS. Submit your erg screen photo to jess@pcrarowing.com (Girls Team) or reid@pcrarowing.com (Boys Team). Questions about which preseason to attend should be directed to admin@pcrarowing.com.

VARSITY TEAM

September 3rd - November 22nd

The top 50 athletes (roughly divided 50/50 boys/girls) will be invited to compete on the Varsity Team. Varsity practices will be 2h 30m long, and will begin on Tuesday, September 3rd. Varsity will have 5 weekday practices, with a 6th practice on Saturday mornings (time is tide-dependent, plenty of advance notice will be given). Varsity will compete in every regatta. Attendance at all practices is required, absences will impact race participation.

Performance at Head of the Charles is the focus of the season, with those boats being selected early. They will race together most of the season in preparation for this race. We do not determine which boats are entered, decisions are based on their lottery system. The Head of the Charles performance is important in determining next year's entries for PCRA. If you are selected for a Charles boat, you must arrive in Boston on Friday and stay in Boston through to Sunday. No exceptions. There will be team practices and race walk throughs on Friday and Saturday, with the races being on Sunday.
