Youth Summer 2018

 

2018 PCRA Youth Summer Programming

PCRA summer rowing begins June 18th at our boathouse on Glen Island. Registration for all programs will be open through our BlueSombrero registration portal. We offer an array of programs to ensure the best fit for your rower's ability.

 

Summer race team 

There are two options for Summer Race team, a shorter program that runs through the Philly Youth Regatta, or a longer one that goes through Canadian Henley
June 18 - August 12
June 18 - July 21

Summer Race Team is open to high school athletes with at least one season of Intermediate or Varsity rowing experience. If you are unsure about placement, speak to your PCRA coach. If you are new to PCRA, email admin@pcrarowing.com. The team will be capped at 48 athletes. 

The Summer Race practices will begin on Monday, June 18, and has the option of either running through the Philly Youth Regatta, or Canadian Henley. The Summer Race Team squad will practice on weekdays according to the schedule below. 

Race Team practice schedule:
Morning sessions Monday - Friday 6:15AM – 8:30AM
Evening Sessions Monday & Wednesday 5:30PM – 7PM

Summer Race Team 1: through Philadelphia Youth Regatta (June 18-July 21), $990
Summer Race Team 2: through Canadian Henley (June 18-August 13), $1590
The two summer race teams will practice together while they are both on

Independence Day Regatta (Philadelphia, PA - June 29 - July 1)

USRowing Club Nationals (Camden, NJ - July 11 - 15)

Philadelphia Youth Regatta (Philadelphia, PA - July 21st)

Canadian Henley (St. Catharine’s, Canada - August 5th - 12th) Those racing will cover cost of accommodations, meal and travel expenses to and from St. Catharine’s. Rowers must be accompanied by a parent, or designate another parents for the trip. Please reach out with any questions!

 

U23 RACE Team

There are two options for U23 Race team, a shorter program that runs through Club Nationals, or a longer one that goes through Canadian Henley
June 18 - August 12
June 18 - July 15

Join us for a competitive U23 summer race season. This program is open to experienced rowers in college. 

Collegiate Team Schedule:

Monday to Friday 6:15-8:30am

Session 1: through Club Nationals (June 18-July 15), $450

Session 2: through Canadian Henley (June 18-August 13), $800

Regattas:

Summer learn to row camps

June 18 - August 4, 2018

We run seven one-week rowing camps throughout the summer. Each Summer Camp runs Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm.

The program is limited to 27 athletes per week.  Program is open to rising 7th graders and up.  Learn to row and have fun!

Our one week in-depth camp is perfect for learn to row and novice rowers. Our learn to row campers will be introduced to rowing in team boats. Our goal is to have everyone rowing quads and doubles and perhaps the single before the camp is over.  A typical day will include rowing, some video review, and a lunch break followed by another row and learning session. Athletes will be boated with rowers of similar ability.

Camp Schedule:

Monday to Friday from 9:00am - 4:00pm

  • Week 1: June 18 - June 22
  • Week 2: June 25 - June 29
  • Week 3: July 2 - July 6 (no camp 7/4)
  • Week 4: July 9 - July 13
  • Week 5: July 16 - July 20
  • Week 6: July 23 - July 27
  • Week 7: July 30 - August 3

smooth sculling 

June 25 - August 3, 2018

Smooth Sculling team is open for all youth and masters scullers.  Come as many days a week as you can for as many weeks as you would like.  At dusk, the water turns to glass with the evening warm air. Enjoy a nice steady row.

Some experience on the water is required as the team will be rowing primarily sculling boats.  If you are unsure about registering for this program, ask your coach or email admin@pcrarowing.com. Coaches will help everyone and give coaching when asked.  All scullers will know or learn the traffic pattern rules and follow them accordingly. The program is capped at 40 athletes per session.

Smooth Sculling Team Schedule:

Recreation Team

June 9 - August 19, 2018

Summer Recreation Team is open to experienced rowers who have completed at least one full year of Development Team. This program is for athletes who want to row during the summer in a non-competitive program.

Practices will be 90 minutes long, and will run for ten weeks. The Recreational squad will practice on Saturdays and Sundays and have access to ergs for supplemental training upon request. Attendance is optional.

Training Facilities

Our summer training takes place at our boathouse on beautiful and historic Glen Island Park. All summer programs include the use of a Westchester County Parks parking pass!

PCRA's indoor training facility is located at the New Rochelle YMCA at 50 Weyman Avenue. Rowing machines will be available for use by PCRA members during the summer season. YMCA members will also have access to the fitness equipment available at its full-service gym, including a pool, weights, showers, sauna, and a variety of activities offered.

A YMCA membership is OPTIONAL for the summer 2018 season.
